BID MEDIOCRITY FAREWELL

There comes a season when the greatest threat to your future is no longer failure.

It is comfort.

I have spent some time around UNGA this season, and I have found myself in rooms that opened my eyes afresh to how global deals are made, how decisions are shaped, how relationships move opportunities, and how centres of influence actually work.

And suddenly, that familiar statement became more than a quote to me:

“If you are not at the table, you may be on the menu.”

The exact origin of the saying is disputed, but its message has endured: when you are absent from important rooms, decisions that affect you may still be made.

It made me ask myself: How many of us are praying about things we should also be positioning ourselves for?

There is a world beyond what you know.

In 1914, Ernest Shackleton sailed toward Antarctica aboard the Endurance, attempting something that had never been accomplished: crossing the continent. The expedition became a disaster. His ship was trapped and eventually crushed by ice.

But Shackleton adapted. The mission changed from exploration to getting his entire crew home alive and all 28 members of the Endurance party ultimately survived.

There is something about leaving familiar territory that introduces you to a version of yourself your comfort zone has never required.

Sometimes God has answered your prayer, but the answer is waiting in a room you have been too comfortable to enter.

Sometimes the next chapter requires a new conversation, a different city, a larger network, another qualification, an uncomfortable introduction, a courageous application or simply the humility to admit:

“There is another level of this world I do not yet understand.”

Today, I want you to say a final goodbye to mediocrity and here are

5 WAYS TO BID MEDIOCRITY FAREWELL

1. LEAVE SOMETHING.

Every new level requires leaving an old comfort. Identify what has become comfortable but too small for your future. Abram was called out of his familiar spirits(family) so that he doesn’t become emotional about a destination that requires precision and absolute dependence on God.

2.ENTER NEW ROOMS.

Go where your current knowledge is insufficient. Attend the conference. Join the conversation. Meet people outside your normal circle. Become comfortable being the person in the room who still has much to learn.

3.LEARN THE LANGUAGE.

Every consequential room has a language - capital, policy, technology, governance, diplomacy, strategy, culture. Learn how the rooms that shape your future actually work. At Pentecost everyone heard them in their own language. Do you know the language of your industry?

4.BUILD RELATIONSHIPS BEFORE YOU NEED THEM.

Your next breakthrough may not come from what you know alone, but through trusted relationships with people whose worlds are different from yours.

5.TAKE YOUR FAMILY WITH YOU.

Do not become globally sophisticated while your family remains strategically unprepared. Exposure should eventually become inheritance. What you learn in powerful rooms should become wisdom your children don’t have to discover from scratch.

I am returning from these experiences with a deeper conviction:

You cannot keep asking God for a larger territory while insisting on living inside familiar boundaries.

The world is moving.

Tables are being formed.

Decisions are being made.

Futures are being negotiated.

Get out of the familiar. Expand your world. Enter rooms that stretch you. Learn. Build. Contribute. And when God gives you access to a table, don’t merely take a seat; bring something worthy to it.

And this is part of why I am excited about what is coming next.

When we open The Family House, inside our closed community I am going to begin teaching families how to navigate these systems intentionally - how to understand the rooms, relationships, opportunities and decisions that can shape not merely their present, but generations after them.

Because perhaps the greatest gift you can give your children is not simply a comfortable life.

It is a larger world.
