Mastering Love: A Journey Towards Authentic Connection – 18: Practicing Respect

Sep 16, 2025

The journey of fostering an environment of love and security often begins with education and awareness. Reflecting on the sexuality education kit I created for children way back, which served as a bulwark against sexual abuse, brings to light the profound impact of my early teachings on respect. This program not only empowered children to safeguard themselves against predators but also instilled in them the values of respect and dignity. As these children mature into graduates, their testimonials underscore the lasting influence of these lessons.

Drawing from this experience, I remember how I devised an acronym to encapsulate the essence of respect, making it an accessible and actionable guide for individuals of all ages. Here’s how you can practice RESPECT in your daily interactions:

R - Reach Out to Help

Always be ready to extend a hand to those you love. Support can manifest in various forms, from a listening ear to a helping hand in times of need. Demonstrating your willingness to assist not only strengthens bonds but also reinforces a culture of mutual aid and empathy. How can you reach out to someone today and what help can you render?

E - Encourage Constantly

Life’s challenges can weigh heavily on the spirit. Make it a habit to encourage the people in your life. A word of motivation, a note of appreciation, or a simple gesture of support can be a beacon of hope. Remember, encouragement is a powerful tool that can transform despair into determination. I watched with soberness the commendation service dedicated to the memory of Herbert Wigwe the erstwhile MD of Access Holdings and I saw how everyone had something to say about how he encouraged everyone to be better.

How many people do you consciously encourage or you are too overwhelmed to see those around you? Sometimes those you assume are ok are not that Ok and can make do with some encouragement.

I am a Saviour
