Mastering Love: A Journey Towards Authentic Connection – 20: Practicing Respect 3
Sep 30, 2025
Reflecting on the recent passing of one of Nigeria's iconic leaders, I've been reminded of the profound lessons embedded in the lives of those who live fully and with purpose. Sitting here in Texas, witnessing tributes from around the world about his impact has reinforced the belief that living a life that embraces all can lead to a legacy that impacts many. It's a reminder that when we open our hearts to everyone, the resources and blessings of the world follow suit.
As we conclude our exploration of RESPECT, we've navigated through the significance of the acronym's first four letters. Today, we embark on understanding the essence of the final components:
E - Elevate Those You Love
Elevation is about supporting and acknowledging the achievements and contributions of those around us. It's a testament to the power of love that seeks not just personal gain but the upliftment of others. This act of elevating others is rooted in recognizing their potential and championing their success, which in turn, enhances our own journey. The wisdom of an ancient African proverb resonates deeply here: "When you lift others up, you rise with them; but when you pull them down, you go down with them."
In the realm of love, forcing someone to abandon their dreams for roles that could easily be shared or delegated is a disservice. Love should empower and elevate, not diminish and confine.
Reflection Question: Who in your life can you actively support and elevate today, and how can you do so?
T - Treat People Right
The invaluable lessons from my mother, Eunice Ibukun, resonate more today than ever: the significance of treating people with kindness and the importance of building bridges over digging dungeons. Every interaction we have leaves a lasting impact, contributing to the narrative of someone's life story.
Treating people right isn't just about avoiding conflict; it's about intentionally adding value, joy, inspiration, and love to every encounter. It's choosing to be a chapter of positivity in the life book of those we meet rather than a source of negativity or sorrow.
Reflection Question: How can you ensure that your interactions today will leave a positive imprint on someone's life?
By elevating others and treating people right, we contribute to a legacy of love, kindness, and understanding that transcends our time.
I am a Saviour

- Who have you treated with disdain before now that you may need to apologize to?
- When will you offer the apology and what gifts can you share with them?
- How will you start to treat the people in your life from now on?
